Understanding Trauma

Learning About How Trauma Affects Us

Trauma can leave lasting marks on both our minds and bodies. For women who have experienced abuse, these effects often continue long after the relationship has ended. Our understanding trauma course is designed to help women understand trauma and its impact, giving them tools to manage its effects and begin the healing process.

Understanding trauma is not about reliving the past — it’s about recognizing how experiences shape thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and learning ways to respond with care and self-compassion.

The Course

Over 8 weeks, our trauma-informed programme explores the effects of trauma on the brain and body, and teaches practical ways to manage trauma responses. Sessions cover topics such as:

  • Understanding triggers and stress responses
  • Self-care and grounding techniques
  • Emotional regulation strategies
  • Building resilience and coping skills
  • Rebuilding confidence and hope

Our approach is gentle, supportive, and based on the belief that healing happens at your own pace, with understanding and guidance.
