Peer Support

Healing Together, Not Alone

Peer support is at the heart of what we do at Anchored In Hope. We believe that healing doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens through connection, understanding, and being alongside others who truly get it.

Leaving an abusive relationship is a huge step, but it’s often only after leaving that the emotional impact of abuse begins to surface. Many women expect life to feel calmer and safer, yet instead find themselves facing new and unexpected challenges. Our peer support groups exist to ensure no woman has to navigate this stage alone.

What Is Peer Support?

Our peer support groups are small, supportive, and trauma-informed. They are built around shared understanding, not judgement or pressure. Everyone’s experience is different, but being with others who have lived through similar experiences can be deeply validating and empowering.

Our groups offer a safe and confidential space to:

  • Talk openly, or simply listen
  • Feel understood and believed
  • Reduce isolation and build connection
  • Share experiences at your own pace
  • Find strength through shared experience

How Our Groups Work

Our peer support groups our women only. We keep our groups small so that everyone has a chance to feel heard. We offer an in person group in Portsmouth, or an online group.

Each week we gently explore a different theme connected to healing after abuse, such as rebuilding confidence, managing emotional responses, boundaries, self-compassion, and hope for the future. Sessions may include discussion, reflective activities, and practical tools, always optional and always led at a comfortable pace.
